Delivery of Water via Helicopter
The top image shows a helicopter carrying a reel of electric wire. The helicopter is deploying the wire as it flies.
The lower image show a proposed method of deploying an electric hose pipeline for relay pumping.
The lower right end of the hose is connected to a source of water and electric power. The helicopter flies towards a fire while unspooling the hose from the rightmost reel. At the center of each reel is an electric booster pump. When a reel is almost empty, a sensor detects that fact, and the reel is automatically detached from the helicopter.
Each reel has slip rings which allow one reel to rotate while the other end of its hose is attached to the non-rotating adjacent reel. When the helicopter arrives at the fire scene, all reels are released to the ground. The firemen than have water at a remote location.
Alternatively, the helicopter can hover and spray the fire from the air.
